Technology Reflection

Technology Reflection

Everyday technology is evolving. We learn something new about technology in daily basis. It would be hard for the world to function without it. Technology is right here in our hands from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep. To some people it is an essential tool for their work and life. Although technology has revolution all areas, to some people it has created less critical thinkers.

People use it as a great resource for many things like teachers and students; especially with this pandemic that the world is living today. Machinery has enormously advanced in medicine; the talking hearing aid that people can even be assistant translating conversations to your language, the vision made audible or what is called OrCam MyEye 2 that help people with dyslexia; the entertainment by sight that is designed to help those with physical disabilities by letting users control devices with their eyes; We Walk, a smart cane that detects objects above chest level to prevents accidents for visually impaired and blind people. The list is long on many many objects that technology has touched in a positive way that has transformed this world.

However the excessive use of uncontrolled time in computers and other youth devices is ending with social skills for future generations, patience, and creativity. The quote by Albert Einstein that says "I Fear the day that technology surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots." I think is makes a great point. Telecommunications already have changed the way society  communicate and interact. It depends on adults to find a balance and apply it so technology wave do not take over our youths lives wrongly.

  1. Great post Liz! Technology is everywhere. I agree that is evolving everyday. I have never heard of some the inventions on that list. Some of them were so crazy especially the talking hearing aid. Most of those inventions will change this world in a positive way. I agree with you that excessive use of technology for youth is decreasing their social skills. I believe technology is meant to help the world but we need to find a balance.

    1. Enjoy your post, Liz and Katie's response. It is my opinion that, with regard to Education, technology is an excellent means to engage this new generation of very visual learners in the classroom through the endless resources available at our fingertips. These resources keep the classroom interesting and fun for the students, while also serving the purpose of reinforcing important concepts and enriching their knowledge base.
While I have very little experience with technology aside from the most basic applications, I definitely see the need to become proficient with all that the world wide web and other media has to offer. However, I do believe that, with regard to society a whole, technology does pose the possibility of creating a huge deficit in social interaction

  2. Great job really focusing on the positives of technology, because there really are so many great things about it. I am interested in the hearing aid so people can communicate and talk in different languages, because then people can connect even more. I do also agree that children need a limitation on their screen time, so they can maybe have 1-2 hours of screen time, then the rest of the day they can play outside or even help their parents cook. Start learning helpful skills.

  3. Most of the technological advances that help mental and physical disabilities are tremendous and some even help do the opposite of what tablets and cellphones are doing to today's children. These technological advances help disabled persons to be able to more adequately interact and socialize with other people more successfully. On the other hand tablets and cellular devices are causing social anxieties and unintelligent interactions. Our society needs to become closer with nature and eachother on a more personal level and be less reliant upon technologies. Only try to use technology when helpful and needed. Take a break from the internet for a day or 2 here and there. Don't watch television or YouTube for a couple of days and see what else we can accomplish and create!
